Everything people ask us

  • The most common formula: (average likes + average comments per post) ÷ follower count × 100. Calculate it over your last 10-12 posts to smooth out post-to-post variance instead of relying on a single standout post.

  • It depends heavily on account size: nano accounts (1K-10K followers) average 2.19%, macro accounts (50K-500K) average 0.86% (Sprout Social, 2026). The bigger an account gets, the more its average engagement rate mechanically drops, compare yourself to similarly-sized accounts, not a single benchmark number.

  • The most common causes: an audience that's no longer qualified (bought followers, off-target growth), a content format that no longer matches what performs (carousels and Reels clearly outperform static images), or a lack of consistency that breaks the algorithmic momentum.

  • The standard calculation (used here and in most industry benchmarks) is limited to likes and comments, the two public metrics comparable across accounts. Shares and saves are strong algorithmic signals, but rarely included in a comparative engagement rate since that data isn't standardized across tools.
