Growth & targeting

Whitelist / blacklist

Add accounts to never approach (existing clients, competitors, people who asked to be left alone) or, on the contrary, priority accounts to always target first. The rule applies automatically to every engagement action carried out on your behalf.

In detail

How it works in practice

Two separate, complementary lists: the blacklist excludes an account from all future automatic targeting, and the whitelist marks it as a priority for engagement

Add accounts one by one (Instagram handle) or by bulk import (list of accounts), to block all your existing clients or a list of identified competitors in one go

The rule is checked before every automatic engagement action: a blacklisted account is never contacted again, even if it reappears in a new targeting source (hashtag, competitor, follower)

Typical blacklist use: clients already signed, partners, the agency's internal accounts, people who explicitly asked not to be approached again

Typical whitelist use: strategic accounts (potential partners, manually identified prospects) that you want engaged first by automatic targeting

The lists can be edited at any time from your account, with immediate effect on running campaigns, and no need to restart a targeting cycle for the exclusion to take effect

In a multi-account setup (agencies), each client account keeps its own whitelist/blacklist, managed independently with no risk of collision between clients

The dedicated support agent who supervises your account can help you build or clean up these lists if the number of accounts to exclude is large

Who this feature is for

Agencies

Automatically exclude the accounts of all clients managed at the same time, so that a client account is never approached by mistake through another of the agency's accounts.

SMBs

Blacklist the accounts of clients already signed and partners, so that automatic targeting focuses its engagement energy on genuinely new prospects.

Coaches & trainers

Block former clients or people who already turned down an offer, and prioritize in the whitelist the accounts of hot prospects spotted manually in a community.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about Whitelist / blacklist

  • Yes. The whitelist and blacklist can be edited continuously from your Propulse account (add, remove, bulk import) and every change applies immediately to the next targeting actions.

  • The blacklist does not block the account on Instagram, it only prevents that account from being approached or engaged automatically on your behalf. If it follows or contacts you on its own, that is outside the scope of the rule.

  • Yes, that is the most common use: you add the accounts of your current clients, partners, direct competitors or people who asked not to be contacted again, so they are excluded from all automatic targeting campaigns.

  • The rule applies to all the platform's automated actions that touch a given account (targeting, welcome DM), not just one isolated component. A blacklisted account stays excluded whatever the automatic engagement channel involved.
